It is true that van Gogh possessed true talent; not only for painting, but also for writing, as one can see in the many letters that he wrote to his family and friends. He wrote about society, art and himself in his own, unique style. The letters written in the Borinage are fewer, because his relationship with his family was tense at the time. They nevertheless reveal his close relationship to his brother Theo, and to the Borinage region, where, as he wrote, “he put down his bible to take up his brushes.”
