SILEX's - The Neolithic Mines of Spiennes

The Museum Tour Between Nature and Culture, discover the history of this exceptional UNESCO-recognized archaeological site, one of the oldest mining sites in the world open to the public. Throughout the season, enjoy walks through the Natura 2000 green zone, a permanent exhibition, and guided tours both on the surface and underground. Free walking maps and nature booklets are available at the reception, offering an even richer experience for the whole family! Descent into the Mines Every weekend, on public holidays, and during school vacations, explore this UNESCO heritage and descend into the Neolithic mines with a guide. The descent is via a 10-meter vertical ladder. For your safety, the underground tour is not allowed for children under 10, people with claustrophobia, heart conditions, vertigo, or for pregnant women. For comfort and safety during the tour, we recommend wearing warm clothes (12° in the mine), closed-toe shoes, and long pants. Activities at SILEX'S (included in the entry fee) Nature Walks Step into the landscape and enjoy 4 discovery-rich walks around SILEX'S, accessible for the whole family (maps available at the reception). Between archaeology and nature, a fun booklet is provided for children. Outdoor exhibition and meeting with the archaeologists Discover the latest archaeological treasures found on site (human bones, pollen, flint...) and learn about the field of archaeology through a selection of photos and explanations. From Tuesday to Friday, from 10am to 4pm, free access to the excavation area of the Wallonia Heritage Agency (AWAP) and the Société de Recherche préhistorique en Hainaut (SRPH). The Technological Innovation "Latent Walk" Experience a technological and artistic journey combining botany with artificial intelligence. Let yourself be surprised and create your own flower! The Shop The shop offers regional food products, artisanal beverages, and children’s items related to prehistory, as well as reference books and children’s books.
