The Angels of Mons. Beliefs and Apparitions in 14-18.
110 years after the Battle of 23 August 1914, this exhibition attempts to understand the popularity of the story by examining the phenomenon of miracles and apparitions that occurred during the war. It tackles the theme of religious sentiment and the need to believe in times of war, as well as decoding the links between culture and propaganda. Why angels? Why, in the unique context of war, did people need to believe? And what do we want to believe in today?
