"But who are these greeters?", I hear you say. They're inhabitants who love their city and have their heart set on sharing their passion with visitors. They're not professional guides, but volunteers, who will tell you about the history of the place and recount personal stories, anecdotes, and other secrets, waiting to be heard.

Meet with the Mons greeters

The city of the Doudou boasts no fewer than sixty greeters! They're all from different backgrounds, but united by a shared passion for their city and region. Their wish? To take you on a tour of Mons, but also, for some, exploring the territory of the Tourist Office by immersing you in the world of the city's inhabitants and making this voyage through time an unforgettable memory.

Nicole, a greeter in Namur, came to meet her Mons counterparts, and discovered their city through poems and songs. Verlaine and Victor Hugo brought the walk to life, while Saint George and Saint Waltrude recounted their legend to the tune of the Doudou hymn… Nicole was enchanted by her "very lively visit to the city" and even admitted to "falling in love with Mons".

So, how does it work in practice?

The Mons greeters welcome you throughout the year, individually or in groups (maximum six people). The meeting is free of charge, and may take place seven days a week, subject to reservation based on the visitor's request and the greeters' availability. You don't have good command of French? Not to worry! The experience can be conducted in different languages: French, Dutch, English, German, Spanish, Italian, Russian and Indonesian.

Are you planning to visit Mons soon? Wait no longer and meet the greeters ;-)
