The Office of St Waudru, exhumed from the sixteenth-century antiphonaries of the Chapter of Saint-Germain, will be sung by the women’s Schola of Notre-Dame au Sablon, the Stella Matutina choir and a professional ensemble from Mons. This unique event, performed in choral vestments, evokes the liturgical and musical life at St Waudru’s Collegiate Church in the time of Lasso, recreating the prayer of a mixed chapter where nothing was considered too good or too lavish for the praise of God. On church festivals, canons and canonesses occupied the choir stalls, resplendent in velvet and ermine with lace surplices; their singing mingled with the organ and numerous other instruments. During the performance of the evening office, the fascinating world of these noblewomen and the memory of their voices and their celestial music will be recreated, bringing Lasso week to a close.
