402nd Ducasse de Messines

The folkloric Ducasse of Messines is an ode to spring and features a grand flower market, a testament to a centuries-old tradition. It all began in the early 17th century when a painting was placed in a chapel. This marked the beginning of the Ducasse, which quickly gained popularity. By the 19th century, small folkloric items such as gayoles, wawas, nightingales, and saudarts had made their appearance. The folkloric Ducasse of Messines as we know it today was born! In 1992, a couple of giants, Batisse and Lalie, accompanied by their son Biloute, added charm to the festivities, and in 2006, Trinette, Biloute's sister, joined the family. Today, the event is a resounding success and has been recognized as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of the French Community.
